Adventurers explore the ruined castle of a wicked, long-dead knight in search of treasure and glory.
Long ago, the wicked robber knight Rothgar Wolfsbane plagued and pillaged the land. His reign of terror finally ended when an orc clan stormed his castle and, after a great and terrible battle, ravaged it with flames. The ruins of the robber knight's castle have stood ever since, holding silent and stark watch of the countryside. But recently, passing travelers tell of the blast of Wolfbane's war horn, and of a ghostly, headless form walking the ruined parapets. Whispers of disappearing caravans and adventurers impel passersby to give the area a wide berth. Will you be the first to reveal to reveal the secrets of the castle of the robber knight?
Dragonbane is an easy-to-learn fantasy dungeoneering game by Free League (the makers of Aliens, Blade Runner, and other games). It's tagline "Mirth & Mayhem" describes its ethos well, being primarily a light-hearted game of action and adventure. It shares many of the archetypes of other fantasy RPGs like D&D, such as fighters, elves, dwarves, and halflings. But it also adds its own flair, from the duck-like mallard ancestry to an easy to learn, skill-based, d20-roll-under system. I hope my own GMing style matches this game's spirit, as I tend to run more action- and combat-oriented games.
